PARENTAL WARNING: Revenge of the Sith

May 19, 2005 | Category:

*SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!*

PARENT ALERT!

In the extended entry is a SPOILER for the movie. I'm posting it because there were a LOT of young kids at the movie tonight and this part was SCARY for them. I kept the spoiler as short and to the point as necessary so I don't ruin the movie for you, but if you're thinking of taking someone under 17 to this movie, please read!

There is a point in the movie where Anakin is ordered by the Sith Lord to prove he's converted to the dark side by killing every Jedi in the temple. You then see Anakin enter a nursery full of scared little children hiding, and when they see it is Anakin they come out - thinking he'll save them all.

He then engages his light saber and (off camera) slaughters them all.

Later in the movie, their bodies are shown and a holographic film of the slaughter is played quickly.

I went to a midnight showing and I was appalled as I was waiting to see a mother bringing her two boys (approx. 5 and 8) to see it, particularly at midnight. Has a PG-13 rating stopped signifying to parents that maybe it is inappropriate for their children under 13? And I remember that scene quite well--I was heart-broken and horrified when Anakin turned on his light saber.
